Prandtl Number

Experiment Module

Prandtl Number

Theory & Logic

Theoretical Background

Physics describes the fundamental mechanism of the universe. The Prandtl Number is an essential tool for understanding Prandtl Number in quantitative terms. Calculate Pr = (cp * μ) / k.

Mathematical Formulation

The relationship between the variables is governed by the following equation:

Result = (cp × mu) ÷ k
Eq 1.1: Governing Formula

Variable Legend

Symbol Parameter Unit
cp Specific Heat J/kg·K
mu Dyn Viscosity Pa·s
k Thermal Cond W/m·K

Practical Calculation Example

Problem

Calculating the result when:

  • Specific Heat = 70 J/kg·K
  • Dyn Viscosity = 60 Pa·s
  • Thermal Cond = 65 W/m·K

Solution

Substituting into Eq 1.1:

Result = (70 × 60) ÷ 65
